brain. our clayton sandell is in houston tonight. clayton, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good evening, dan. well, one member of giffords' medical team told us that they are going to delay her transfer to this rehab facility, and one reasons that surgeons have been concerned about is a buildup of fluid in the congresswoman's brain. now, last week they installed a drain to drain some of that fluid away and they don't want to move her until they can remove that drain. they're worried about infection. >> do we know if this is a serious setback or something that's par for the course in cases like this? >> reporter: doctors we spoke to said it is fairly common after major head trauma and surgery for fluid to build up and for a drain to be installed. but it's important to know where exactly that fluid is building up and where the drain has been installed. right now, we don't have those kind of details from the medical team. and dan, we have learned that members of giffords tucson medical team that helped her after the initial shooting as well as her intern, daniel hernandez, are all

evacuated after explosives were found in a house. it happened near clayton road and maria avenue. four old military motors were found in the back of a truck. a consultant came to assist. >>> on this chilly night, san francisco officials are counting the numbers of homeless people living on the city's street. it's all part of a procedure that is done every few years to help the city get an idea of how many homeless there are. kron 4's reggie kumar joins us live from san francisco with the story. >> reporter: volunteers are returning here after hitting the street to count the homeless populations. volunteers packed this room before hitting the streets to take part in the homeless count. officials and san francisco police provided safety instructions and plains how to classify someone has a homeless person. she knows how important this is for the city because she used to live on the streets. >> they need more shelters and they need them in place wheres people can get to them. i know what it's like to be homeless too, need a place to stay, need a place to eat. >> reporter: this count is necess
of the congresswoman gabrielle giffords. our clayton sandell is in houston this morning where the congresswoman is being treated. clayton is on the phone with us. clayton, we've been hearing these reports of a fluid buildup in gabby's brain. what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: good morning, dan. that's right. "the houston chronicle" is quoting one of gabrielle giffords' doctors, dr. john holcomb, saying that the buildup of fluid around gabby giffords' brain could keep her in a houston intensive care unit a little longer than expected, perhaps till the end of the week. that would mean a delay of her transfer to a full time rehabilitation facility just down the street could be delayed, and that is where she was likely to spend the next four to six months. >> this sounds like a setback. is it a setback or is this routine in cases like this? >> reporter: right now it's not clear exactly how major a setback this is, but the buildup of fluid is not something that is new. it's something doctors have known about for awhile and have been dealing with since last week. keep in mind, large portio

win 10 to 20. 30s around concord, clayton, walnut creek, livermore at 35. this is the trough to the north of us. it's a trough of low pressure and many of these clouds are spilling over into the northwestern quadrant of the state of california. that's where we just saw those high clouds from as we looked out from mount vaca. now, meanwhile, this area of low pressure served a purpose because it scrubbed away the stratus in the form of low clouds and patchy fog along the immediate seashore and also, with that offshore push, it actually moved out that tule fog from our inland areas but now we have a series of storms out over the pacific. the storms will not affect us as far as precipitation is concerned. but it will affect us as far as surface is concerned. in fact, take a look at some video i just received from hawaii. surf is it from oahu through maui into kona. they have a high surf advisory in effect for that area but also strong thunderstorms are now pushing into the chain of hawaiian islands, as well. as far as we're concerned by the weekend 12 to 15 feet swells, 20 to 30
